Life was Wonderful before I was Taught to "Live" |
When he was young,
Life seemed wonderful to me
A miracle, it was beautiful, magical.
And all the birds in the trees
they sang so happily
With joy and playfulness, they looked at me.
But then they sent me away
To learn to be sensible
Logical, responsible, practical.
They showed me a world
Where I could show myself trustworthy,
clinical, intellectual, cynical.
There are times when everyone sleeps
When the questions get too deep
For a man as simple as me.
Will you please tell me what we have learned?
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am.
Now be careful what you say
Or they will call you radical,
Liberal, fanatic, criminal.
Don't you want to sign up?
We would like to feel that you were
Acceptable, respectable, presentable, a vegetable.
There are times when everyone sleeps
When the questions get too deep
For a man as simple as me.
Will you please tell me what we have learned?
I know it sounds absurd
But please tell me who I am, who I am, WHO I AM.
