Jesus refers to the Ten Commandments of God's law when a young man asks how to get eternal life: "Teacher, what must I do good to inherit eternal life?". Jesus answered, "If thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments." He cites his interlocutor the precepts that concern love of neighbor: "You shall not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not bear false witness, Honor thy father and thy mother." Finally Jesus sums up these commandments positively: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself" (Mt 19: 16-19).
